Outside Air Temperature (OAT)Sensor is used to measure the temperature outside the passenger compartment of a vehicle, it is typically mounted inside or near the front bumper or in the side mirror. The OAT sensor relays the outside air temperature to the controller of the automatic HVAC system. The controller uses this temperature to assist in controlling the interior temperature of the vehicle.
The sensor also provides temperature readings outside the vehicle for passengers in the vehicle, which is particularly useful when driving near freezing or freezing conditions.
